Usborne Books were first published in 1973 by Peter Usborne, who became
determined to make a career in an industry for children after becoming a father.
Usborne Publishing revolutionized children's publishing with information books that
combined very high educational and editorial standards, and made finding out fun.
Within months of first publication, Usborne Books were a major international
success. The 180 person staff in England includes fifty designers and forty writers
whose goal is to produce books that "are better than good" and "provoke
wondering." Now translated into over 90 languages, Usborne Books have been
widely imitated but never bettered and continue to earn glowing reviews and prestigious
awards.
The "More" in Usborne Books and More includes our books from
Kane Miller Book Publishers, started 25 years ago in California by a brother and sister
whose inspiration was to find books that gave the reader a sense of being someplace
different, while entrenching the reader in the story. Editor Kira
Lynn of Kane Miller Book Publishers knows how especially meaningful it is to get the
right book to the right child, and she has shown an amazing talent for finding books that
speak to a child's heart, comfort and challenge, and awaken the imagination and the
conscience. Her mission is to search for books that through great stories and arresting
illustrations enrich the lives and the imaginations of the children who read them.
